20th Annual Allardt Great Pumpkin Festival and Weigh-off, Saturday, October 1, 2011
Allardt's 20th Annual Great Pumpkin Festival and Weigh-off is set for Saturday, October 1, 2011. (One day only this year.) Food and crafts vendors will be set up in Allardt's Bruno Gernt Park all day. Pre-Festival Event Pumpkin Festival Beauty Pageant - 9:00 a.m. 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at York Institute Auditorium. Open to any age-appropriate individuals. Entry Fee $25/$5 Photogenic. Return entry form and fee to Neat Repeats by Thursday, September 22 at 3 p.m. or mail to 1548 McBroom St., Jamestown TN 38556 by September 20. Informal practice time will be available on Friday, September 23, starting at 5 p.m. for ages 3-21 (not mandatory). Download the entry form. Pumpkin Run - Saturday, Oct. 1. Registration 7 to 7:45 a.m. at Allardt School with start time at 8 a.m. Categories of entry are 10K run (new this year), 5K run, 3K, and 1 mile Fun Run. Entry fee is $15 for the 10k, 5K, and 3k, and $5 for the 1 mile Fun Run. (Family rate three or more entries $40 total). Sponsored by York Skills USA. Download form. Festival Kick-off Ceremonies Saturday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. at Allardt City Hall. This year's Great Pumpkin Festival King and Queen will be announced along with presentation of Pumpkin Beauty Contest winners. Children's Costume Contest - 10 a.m. Saturday on stage at City Hall lawn. Registration at 9:30 a.m. Categories: Ages 0-2 years; 3-5 years; 6-8 years; 9-12 years; and group. Weigh-Off of Pumpkins and Other Vegetables - Saturday, Oct. 1. Register your pumpkins, squash, watermelons, and other vegetables from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the Sandy's Diner building, the former site of Allardt Express Market. The actual weigh-off will take place there between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Top ten pumpkin winners will receive cash prizes from funds contributed both by the Allardt weigh-off and the TN Giant Pumpkin Growers. First place - $1000, Second place - $500, Third place - $300, Fourth place - $200, Fifth place - $150, Sixth Tenth place - $50. Top prize for watermelons is $400 with scaled down prizes through 5th place. Top prize for green squash is $300 scaled down to $50 for 4th place. More than $3,800 in cash will be awarded to top entries in all categories. The big pumpkin winner must ride in the parade or be disqualified. See rules, regulations and all cash prizes online. Awards and all prizes start at 3 p.m. Car Show entry fee is $10 with 15 x 20 swap meet spaces (auto related items) available for $20. Please bring four cans of food for a special drawing for a brand new 32" LCD HDTV (to benefit the Fentress County Food Bank). Parade entries will line up on the Baseline Road. To line up, follow Highway 52 E from Allardt past the orange water tower to the Les Franklin Road. Turn left at the Les Franklin Road. Then enter the Baseline Road from the Les Franklin Road only. The deadline for entries is noon Thursday, Sept. 29. Entertainment - Singer and guitarist Jeff Crouch, Servant, Leonard Anderson, and The Coal Men featuring Dave Coleman and Jason Hitchcock will appear on stage Saturday afternoon, beginning at 12 noon. Crafts and Food Vendors - Bruno Gernt Park, all day Saturday. All types of handmade crafts, jewelry, dolls, wood crafts, floral crafts, quilts, oil paintings, wall hangings, honey, T-shirts, Christmas items, ornaments, yard art, ceramics, baskets, wooden toys, homemade goodies. Hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, homemade desserts, ice cream, and specialty foods. (All vendors not set up in the park and who have not paid the fee, must purchase a vendor's permit for $50 at Allardt City Hall and keep it at their site during the festival.)
