What Keeps us From Our Blessings

By Sandra Turner

What keeps us from obtaining and enjoying our inheritance? God has already blessed us with every blessing, according to Ephesians 1:3. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ."

If we belong to Jesus and have made Him Lord of our lives, those blessings are ours. He has bought them for us through His death, burial, and resurrection.

Now many of us are not seeing those blessings, but we are seeing instead our troubles and our afflictions. We are looking at our natural circumstances and putting all our faith and confidence in what we are seeing in the natural realm - sickness, poverty and lack, perhaps addictions and bondages.

It is a matter of changing our mindset. Let's believe what God has said in His Word, rather than focusing on what is going on around us. Paul said, "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Rom. 12:2).

The Book of Ephesians says Christ is seated at the right hand of God in the heavenly realm and He has raised us up to sit down with Him (Eph. 2:6) "far above all principality and power and might and dominion" (Eph. 1:21). We are seated with Him in heavenly places, out of the dominion of Satan and darkness.

Luke (10:19) says He has given us "power to tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy."

We have authority over the devil and can speak to our mountains in the name of Jesus and see them removed. We can speak to our circumstances and see them changed. (Mark 11:23)

Yet many of us are like someone who has been given one million dollars in his bank account and yet refuses to write a check because he does not really believe it is there. We may look around us and wonder what sin has caused us to be besieged and beaten down by the troubles of life. Yet there is more than likely only one thing -one sin- that is keeping us out of the plan and blessings of God. And that is unbelief.

Let's make the effort to believe God's Word and walk in His blessings. Let's meditate in the Word, think about the scriptures, read them over and over to ourselves, begin to speak them to our circumstances until the light comes on, until we believe them and receive them.

We can internalize these scriptures. The truth revealed in them can become more real to us than our circumstances. We can command poverty, lack, sickness, oppression to get out of our lives.

The truth is Jesus Christ has redeemed us from poverty, sickness, and spiritual death, according to Galatians 3:13 by being made a curse for us, in our place.
When we know that we know that we know, when light and revelation come, then the blessings of God will begin to manifest in our lives. We will draw to ourselves the blessings Jesus Christ has purchased for us rather than the trouble and affliction caused by the devil.

You may wonder, then will we stop having any trouble with the devil? No, we will have to continue to assert our authority on a daily basis and keep refreshed in the Word. But we can rejoice in our victory and the fact that we are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ. We have been well equipped with weapons to use against our enemy.

"The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." (II Cor. 10: 4-5)

Jesus told his disciples before He ascended into Heaven, "All power in heaven and earth has been given to me... Go ye therefore..." (Matt. 28:18-19)

He has conferred His authority to us as His body in the earth. Let's learn how to use it for ourselves, our family, our friends, and all human kind.
