Who is Jesus to you? This is without doubt the most important question you will ever answer. Is He just the baby in the manger scene, not very important in our lives - someone we hardly acknowledge except at Christmas time, maybe not even then? In the Gospel of Matthew (16:15) Jesus asks His disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" He is still asking that question today of each one of us, and the way we answer determines not only where we will spend eternity, but the quality of our daily lives here on the earth. If we say that He is our God, our savior and our redeemer, He delivers us out of Satan's grasp and gives us eternal life, with Him in Heaven. (Romans 10:9). He cancels the penalty of sin in our lives, which is eternal punishment in Hell. (Psalms 9:17) If we say that He is our healer according to Exodus 15:26 and Psalm 103:3, He heals all our physical and mental diseases and infirmities. If we say that He is our miracle worker, according to the Gospels, He will come and do miracles in our lives (Hebrews 13:8). If we say that He is our deliverer, according to II Timothy 4:18 and Psalm 34:19, He delivers us out of every evil circumstance and bondage that Satan puts in our lives. If we say that He is our provider and gives us the things we need in this life according to Philippians 4:19, He provides for us, not according to this world's standards, but according to His riches in glory -which are vast and beyond our comprehension. (The streets of Heaven are paved with gold, remember.) If we say that He is our shield and our protector according to Proverbs 30:5 and many of the Psalms, He protects us from physical harm in this life. Earthquakes, hurricanes, terrorists, muggers, rapists need not cause us fear. Jesus will be our safety. If we say that Jesus is our lover and our friend, according to the Song of Solomon, He will fill the deep emotional needs that we have, those needs that human lovers and friends are so often unable to fulfill. If we say that Jesus is our righteousness (I Cor. 1:30), we have all the blessings of a righteous man promised in the Bible - and our prayers will work, according to James 5:16. Any good thing or blessing you can imagine - Jesus will be in your life. Anything He has ever done or been for anyone in the Bible He will do and be for you. Acts 10:34 says He is no respecter of persons. Do you only see Jesus as the baby in the manger scene this Christmas? Think again. That baby is your Creator (John 1:3). He is the beginning and the ending of all (Rev. 1:8). He will be whatever you invite Him to be in your life. Whatever place of honor you make for Him in your life, He will fill. He is standing at your side constantly asking with eager anticipation, "Who do you say that I am?" From Singles Scene/Spirit & Life, P.O. Box 310, Allardt, TN 38504
